Home Repair Program

The Housing Assistance Program of Essex County has assisted communities and property owners with housing repairs since 1984. More than 1,100 housing units have been renovated, using over $21 million in grant money from both federal and state sources. Housing rehabilitation programs in the county are funded annually, and vary in scope and location from year to year.

Currently Available Housing Rehabilitation Programs

New York State Community Development Block Grant (CDBG)

NY’s Office of Community Renewal provides block grants to address a wide range of community needs such as housing rehabilitation, public infrastructure improvements, and economic revitalization.

New York State HOME Program

The New York State Division of Housing and Community Renewal’s HOME Program provides funds to communities and not for profit agencies with a wide range of affordable housing activities including rehabilitation, new construction, and home buyer assistance.

Emergency Flood Assistance Program

The New York State Affordable Housing Corporation is making funding available for emergency housing repairs for income-qualified homeowners in Clinton, Essex and Hamilton counties who have recently experienced damage from flooding and where the damage is not covered by other programs or insurance.
